Property tax

How do Metro rates and city taxes combine?

The district a parcel is in sets the Metro rate; a satellite city may add its own.

  • Metro defines the General Services District as Davidson County and the Urban Services District as the old City of Nashville plus areas added since, funded by an additional rate (Note 4).
  • The Urban Services District receives all General Services District services plus trash and recycling collection and street lighting (Note 4).
  • Metro says residents of its satellite cities pay the General Services District rate plus the rate set by their satellite city. The Metro text reviewed does not list the cities by name (Note 5).
  • The Metro Trustee names Belle Meade, Ridgetop and Goodlettsville as the only Davidson County cities with separate city taxes, directs residents of those three to their city offices, and says all other city taxes are collected by the Trustee (Note 6).
  • Parcel maps, tax information and deeds are searchable through the Assessor’s portal (Note 10).

Metro’s text says satellite-city residents pay the General Services District rate (Note 5); it does not list the cities by name. Ask the Trustee to confirm the rate for a specific parcel.
